Dining al fresco… but not as you know it!
Greg Davis enjoys lunch at the Rooftop Gardens in Norwich

A recent addition to the Norwich restaurant scene, the Rooftop Gardens certainly offers something that the others don’t!

Really not knowing what to expect, my wife and I arrived with our daughter for lunch on a sunny Friday afternoon in early August and met with our good friend, Gemma Foreman, and her newborn son Freddie Farrell. Thankfully he has his mother’s good looks!

Located off Prince of Wales Road on Rose Lane atop the Union Building, we were pleasantly surprised as we walked into the restaurant on the 6th floor. A large bar and inside dining area greet you on arrival but it is all about the garden!

Fake grass (real stuff just wouldn’t work), modern furniture, glass window surrounds, relaxed music, plenty of greenery, rugs, cushions, heaters and a roof cover for colder or wetter weather make for a stunning setting. The vistas are amazing with a very clear view of Norwich Cathedral and other Norwich landmarks.

So to the food……

The menu offers a good mix of light bites through to large sharing platters and various steaks as well as different special dishes for lunch and evening menus. A breakfast menu is also served between 9.30 and 11.30 on Saturday and Sunday mornings. This includes pastries, muffins, eggs Benedict, omelettes and of course all the traditional full English ingredients.
