Protect rural fuel from oil theft
If your home is one of the many in Suffolk or Norfolk that is off the mains gas grid, Calor is urging you to check the security of your fuel, so you stay warm and well this winter.
Recent research shows Suffolk is one of the top 10 areas most affected by rural crime, costing homeowners in the area £1.1m each year. Heating oil is one of the items commonly targeted by thieves, which can be concerning for rural Suffolk and Norfolk residents relying on oil for their household heating and hot water.
Heating oil is viewed as an easy target, as storage tanks are often quite large and obvious, and thieves need only to trespass onto the property, pierce the tank and then siphon off the oil. Repairing or replacing the tank and oil could prove very expensive, and there may also be environmental damage from spillages to clean up. Meanwhile you may be left vulnerable with no fuel.
