Charlie Roadley-Battin enjoys Great Stay at Great Yarmouth’s Marine Lodge…

Not having visited Great Yarmouth for some time, and therefore not knowing what to expect, finding Marine Lodge occupying one of the premier sea-front locations was a very pleasant surprise.

We were warmly greeted by Nick Delf, the proprietor, who has owned the hotel for many years, and in the last few has cleverly refurbished Marine Lodge by combining all modern facilities, whilst retaining the original Victorian charm.

We were then shown to our room, which was very spacious and tastefully decorated. It had a large bay window to enjoy the stunning sea views, and a super comfy super king bed! Our en suite was immaculately clean with a luxurious whirlpool corner bath – heaven!
Before dining we decided to have a glass of wine in the stylish and contemporary bar. Listening to lovely background music we perused the menu. The dining room was of a good size and again boasted fantastic sea views.

My husband elected to start with the black pudding with poached eggs and chorizo, which he said was cooked perfectly, full flavoured and a great combo, while I decided on the garlic mushrooms en croute which were silky, buttery and delicious. To follow, Christian went for the hunter chicken which apparently was brimming with flavour, and I opted for the poached salmon with hollandaise sauce, which was well seasoned and very tasty.
