A lovely place to eat, drink and stay, say the Roadley-Battins

With the help of our trusty Sat Nav, we found the Saracen’s Head down a pretty country lane in the beautiful North Norfolk countryside, just a few miles from the historical market town of Aylsham.

Nestled in its own grounds, this charming Georgian inn,  steeped in history has been in the safe hands of husband and wife Tim and Janie Elwes for the past seven years. As we entered we were warmly greeted by Robbie the general manager, who showed us to our lovely room for the night, which was spacious, tastefully decorated and had a huge comfy bed! We also enjoyed a flat screen TV, tea & cafetiere, with sweet Emma Bridgewater mugs. Our bathroom was again a good size and immaculately clean.

After a quick freshen up we went down to the very cosy bar for a warming tipple and to read the blackboard menu for that evening, (it’s changed daily!). Tim then kindly talked us through the mouth-watering dishes, from the whole plaice with fennel, crayfish & baby capers, through to water buffalo sirloin steak, also locally sourced.
