Makers of Fine English Wine in Norfolk

Hand crafted in Norfolk

John and Bridget Hemmant planted the Chet Valley Vineyard 10 years ago and they grow a range of grapes to give still and sparkling wines both red and white packed with fruit. John the winemaker describes the wines as being made with artisan methods using modern technology to ensure a high quality product for all to enjoy. John is passionate about producing wines in a sustainable way of which England can be proud.

The vine growing at Chet Valley Vineyard allows a great diversity of flora and fauna and the methods used in the vineyard allow for soil improvement and biodiversity. John works with local conservation groups and research projects of the UEA in order to understand the vineyard ecosystem and manage it to increase the flora and fauna.

Visit the vineyard

Come and enjoy a visit to the vineyard and winery; walk or picnic in the mature vineyards of the Chet Valley Vineyard only nine miles south of Norwich. This family business will give you a warm welcome when visiting. Taste the best of English wine on the official tours guided by John. The tours allow you to taste 5 wines 3 of which are sparkling wines made by the Great British Classic Method. You can escape to The Vine House for a holiday or short break staying on the vineyard in a lovely cottage that sleeps six; two doubles and a twin. Enjoy drinking wine on the lawn overlooking the vineyard and take the experience home with you as a case of wine.

Get involved

If you wish to become more involved you can join the wine club which enables you to gain discounts on wine and attend wine events. You may like to get involved with the pruning and harvesting in which case you can lease vines and drink your own wine and even develop your own personal label. Leaseholders and Club members are able to meet up with the winemaker at vineyard events and meet like-minded people to drink wine with while overlooking the vineyard on the balcony of the new winery. John welcomes groups that are looking for a day out to share together in the countryside but who like to explore new wines. John is happy to introduce you to his unique artisan wines from a sustainable vineyard. The wines of the Chet Valley Vineyard are on trend being full of fruit, vegan and low in sugar.

Chet Valley Vineyard Wines

The Chet Valley Vineyard flagship wine is called Horatio after Horatio Nelson, recognising the wine’s Norfolk roots. This wine was made in 2016 and is a pink fizz ideal for drinking anytime. For a lighter fizz do try the vineyard’s Skylark range. John does produce a Red Sparkling Wine called Red Kite, this is the first sparkling red wine in the area and is testimony to the innovation of this vineyard.
