Contemporary art for home & salon decor
The American artist and fashion illustrator Kimberly Godfrey moved to England in 2000 after meeting her British husband. She now runs a global artwork business shipping directly from her studio on the leafy banks of the River Lark.
Business success wasn’t overnight. “Artists have it so much easier now that we can show our work to a worldwide audience via the internet. As a young artist I did a lot of art shows and art fairs in the US without much success. My painting style was very different back then. It took several years to develop the colourful technique I now have. Many of my paintings are inspired by early cinema stars of the 1920’s. As a cinephile, I get a kick when I recognize a film star’s name on my purchase list, and have recently shipped art to Forest Whitaker and Donald Sutherland.”
With a creative background in fine art and fashion, Kimberly specialises in large-scale contemporary abstract paintings and giclee print work with a glamorous aesthetic. Her customers can be anywhere in the world and are a diverse set.
“They tend to be people who love big, bold statement art.’ Her vivid abstract paintings are created by pouring inks on blank canvas or Yupo paper. The exciting part of creating these pieces is you never really know quite what you’ll end up with. It’s the spontaneity of watching the colours blend together that I find so appealing.”
Kimberly’s bespoke art studio was built to accommodate control of her artwork from creation through production and delivery. She soon realised she couldn’t juggle the admin side of the business, make commission deadlines, and create new work all on her own, and has since taken on a studio assistant. She has also invested in state of the art giclee printers to ensure that her customers can be assured of the quality of the artwork in which they are investing.
Kimberly’s work can be viewed by appointment at her studio in Bury St Edmunds. Private and commercial commissions accepted.
