The agricultural history of East Anglia

About us

The Museum of East Anglian Life, Stowmarket is a 75-acre site with 17 historic buildings and a nature trail, perfect for keeping entertained on a whole day out. All entries are valid for 12-months so you can come back as much as you like, enjoy walks, talks and time spent with family and friends.

Museum reopening

The largest independent museum in Suffolk, the museum’s vast, open-air site allows for easy social distancing. Recipients of Visit England’s ‘Good to go’ mark, we’ve increased cleaning around our site, implemented a one-way system in the shop and are encouraging social distancing around all our buildings. When we reopened our doors in July we also opened a new farm area to visitors, complete with new signage and major improvements to our animal areas. You can visit our friendly animals, see what crops are growing in the field, walk through our orchard and learn a bit more about the food you eat and how it’s produced in the farm barn.

Events programme

We’ve adjusted our programme of talks to allow them to be held at a safe distance. Meet the museum’s Suffolk Punch horse Zippo and learn a bit more about his daily routine Thursday-Sunday. Join us for Sheepdog training every Wednesday, see charcoal being made every Thursday and watch the animals being fed every day as our friendly and knowledgeable staff bring the site to life. We’re also getting our events programme back on track with a socially distanced Outdoor Cinema on the 21 and 22 August. Come and watch afternoon showings of Paddington 2 and Frozen 2 or join us in the evening for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Mamma Mia. Tickets are only available in advance.
