Rescuing and caring for horses and donkeys in need
The UK’s largest horse sanctuary
Redwings Horse Sanctuary is a 100% publicly funded, registered charity, and believes that every horse, pony, donkey and mule has the right to a happy and healthy life, free of fear and neglect. Although Norfolk is the charity’s home, Redwings rescues neglected and abandoned horses from across the country, giving them a safe place to live, and is currently home to over 1,500 residents – making it the UK’s largest horse sanctuary!
If you’re looking to do something amazing this New Year, why not support them and help save the lives of horses and donkeys in need? Here’s how:
Donate your unwanted items
Having a spring clean? Don’t throw away your unwanted items, donate them to Redwings! The Sanctuary welcomes donations of just about anything to sell via their eBay shop and visitor centres, or you can use a registered scheme to support them by donating stamps, jewellery, old mobile phones, used ink cartridges, or even scrapping your car!
Sponsor a resident
New year, new friend! Sponsoring a Redwings resident is a great way to support the care of a special Adoption Star horse or donkey and their friends. From real-life Black Beauty Maya and magnificent Shire Poppy to dainty donkey Esther and handsome thoroughbred-cross Gulliver all Redwings’ Adoption Stars have a tale to tell – in fact they’ll write to you and send you photos. A year’s sponsorship costs just £12.50 and also makes a great gift!
Redwings has two visitor centres in Norfolk – Redwings Caldecott near Great Yarmouth and Redwings Aylsham near Norwich – and both allow you to see how your support makes a real difference. Here, you can meet rescued horses and donkeys (cuddling is encouraged!) and join in fun activities, before relaxing in the onsite cafés and picking up a souvenir from the gift shop – all proceeds from which go directly towards caring for the residents.
Looking for a challenge for 2017? Why not fundraise for Redwings? Whether you’re wanting to get active and run, cycle or swim to help horses, feeling creative and bake, paint or knit for donkeys, or fancy doing something crazy like a sky dive for mules, everyone can be a Redwings Angel in 2017.
